Great Basin Primary Care Association

Great Basin Primary Care Association (GBPCA) is a federally funded non-profit membership organization that was founded in 1995.

GBPCA serves 330 funded and prospective federally qualified health centers, tribal health centers, other primary care clinics, and safety-net providers throughout the State of Nevada.

Policy / Affordable Care Act Update

Governor Brian Sandoval announced on December 11th he will support expanding Medicaid as allowed for under the Affordable Care Act, raising the threshold for eligible participants to 138% of the Federal Poverty Level. The decision was praised in many circles, including by the Great Basin Primary Care Association.
GBPCA Executive Director Nancy Hook observed that by supporting Medicaid expansion, Governor Sandoval is supporting GBPCA’s mission.
“Providing Medicaid coverage to this new group of qualified Nevadans will not only improve access to much needed services but will significantly affect the operations and financing of our health centers,” Hook added. “Safety-net providers facilitate access to health care by bringing doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals, and quality cost-effective medical, dental and behavioral health services to communities in need.”
Sandoval’s decision ensures Medicaid expansion will not be a primary focus this coming legislative session, averting a potential showdown with legislative Democrats who as a group solidly support expansion.
