Welcome to Version 2004.1 of the Nevada Primary Care Handbook!
updated May 2004 from the original release of version 2003.1

Yes, we are on a campaign....
100% Access - Zero Health Disparities

What does this mean?  Great Basin Primary Care Association has welcomed to Nevada the national campaign for 100 percent access to primary health care services and zero disparities in health status by 2010.  This means that every person in every underserved community in Nevada will have access.   It also means that we have a goal to live in a state where there will be no disparities in health status related to race, ethnicity, gender or income.  We want you to join us on this journey.  Together, we can build local health care systems that offer both the finest in quality health care and include everyone.  In the world's wealthiest nation, every man, woman, and child should receive nothing less.

 Responding to a National Crisis
It is outrageous that people in this country and in this state do not have access to health care and that there are disparities in health status among different population groups. This is intolerable.  It doesn't have to be this way.  Changing this picture is the right thing to do.  And it can be done.

What is community-based health?

  • It means that a community takes control of its health care needs.

  • It means neighborhood providers and neighborhood clinics run by and for community members.

  • It means staff who understand those they serve, because they speak the languages, live in the neighborhoods and care for the people.

  • It means primary health care that stresses prevention and education.

  • It also means serving people regardless of their ability to pay.
