100%-Zero Campaign ~What Does This Mean?

GBPCA has welcomed to Nevada the national campaign for 100 percent access to primary health care services and zero disparities in health status by 2010.  This means that every person in every underserved community in Nevada will have access.  It also mean that we will live in a state where there will be no disparities in health status related to race, ethnicity, gender or income.

We want you to join us on this journey.  Together, we can build local health care systems that offer both the finest in quality health care and include everyone.  In the world's wealthiest nation, every man, woman, and child should receive nothing less.

Responding to a National Crisis

It is outrageous that people in this country and in this state do not have access to health care and that there are disparities in health status among different population groups.

  • Approximately 44 million people are uninsured

  • At least 48 million people do not have access to a regular source of heath care

  • People living in poverty and racial and ethnic groups experience lower life expectancy and higher death rates for cancer and heart disease compared to the general population

  • These disparities have existed since the beginning of the 20th century and still exist in the 21st century

This is intolerable.  It doesn't have to be this way.
Changing this picture is the right thing to do.  And it can be done.

Our Strategies

Our strategies to achieve the 100% Access and Zero Health Disparities goals are to support the community health center movement and include:

  • Strengthening & Expanding Nevada's Community & Tribal Health Centers to assure access to our citizens regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.
  • Building partnerships to help transform primary care delivery systems by restructuring, integrating existing health services and involving the faith, business, and educational communities.
  • Aligning resources with those who have similar missions and assets they are willing to mobilize and a commitment to work collaboratively.
  • Transforming clinical practice to assure appropriate care within the network of providers so that morbidity and mortality from conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease are reduced.
  • Working with community "champions" who serve as advocates and take responsibility for helping communities move toward 100% Access and Zero Health Disparities.  Champions help by locating resources, providing information, and getting the assistance that communities need.
