Percentage of Uninsured - All Income Levels

Note: Estimates are not consistent with prior estimates due to benchmarking to 2000 Census numbers.

Notes:

  1. Both the proportion of men and women who were  uninsured increased from 2004 but dropped from 2005 to 2006.
  2. Women were quite a bit less likely than men to be uninsured in both 2005 and 2006.
  3. For 2005, 16.9% of women and 18.7% of men were uninsured.
  4. For 2006, 16.6% of women and 17.5% of men were uninsured.
  5. However, the percentage of uninsured men decreased by 1.2 percentage points while the percentage of uninsured women decreased by only 0.3 percentage points

Measured Against the Federal Poverty Threshold

  • The percent of people below 100% of poverty who were uninsured increased steadily from 3.8% in 2004 to 4.1% and 4.2% in 2005 and 2006 respectively.
  • The percent of the population between 100% and 199% of poverty who were uninsured decreased steadily from 5.4% in 2004 to 5.3% in 2005 and 4.7% in 2006.
(Note:  Percentage point changes are calculated by subtracting the 2004 percent from the 2003 percent.)

Notes

  1. The percentage of uninsured people below the 100% poverty threshold increased slightly in 2005 and 2006 from 2004.  The trend is the reverse for the percentage of uninsured people in the 100-200% poverty category.
  2. Women who are below 100% of poverty are more likely to be uninsured than men.
  3. Women who are between 100-200% of the poverty threshold are less likely to be uninsured than men.
  4. There was a more dramatic drop from 2005 to 2006 in the percentage of uninsured men in both the total population (18.7% to 17.5%) and in the 100-200% poverty category (5.5% to 5.0%)
  5. The percentage of uninsured women in the 100-200% poverty category also saw a drop from 5.1% in 2005 to 4.4% in 2006.

Clark and Washoe Counties

Percentage of Uninsured in Clark and Washoe Counties Compared to Nevada

Note: Estimates are not consistent with prior estimates due to benchmarking to 2000 Census numbers.

Notes:

  1. Clark County had uniformly higher rates of uninsured people than Washoe county for both 2005 and 2006 – perhaps due to it’s industrial structure.
  2. Clark County’s uninsured rate will drive the State’s uninsured rate as it represents about 70% of Nevada’s total population.
